Our history is rich and our story full of flavour.
Based on the Southern edge of England’s most famous National Park, Higginsons is an award-winning family butchers and pie makers with a reputation for the highest quality meat along with a deep-rooted connection to the local landforms and communities.
The business was originally founded by the Higginson family in 1983 and was later acquired by Mark Porter in 2020 after many years spent working in the business as General Manager.
40 years on and still going strong, Higginsons operates from the same high street shop and manufacturing premises in Grange-over-Sands, serving up a blend of family favourites and innovative additions. Traditional cuts of meat and seasonal specialties can be found within the butchers shop and adjacent, the deli sells dozens of varieties of our legendary, hand-made pies.
Whilst the business has grown and developed over the years, our simple ethos remains the same – to bring the highest quality food and meat to our customers with care, passion and commitment.
We believe in working alongside local farmers and producers, to source the best meat and ingredients in a sustainable way. Our knowledgeable, experienced team are always on hand to cater to your requirements, no matter how unusual!
We proudly produce our own multi award-winning traditional Cumberland sausage and home-cured bacon as well as an ever-changing range of weekly and seasonal specials. We also champion Cumbrian specialties including Morecambe Bay saltmarsh lamb, Lakeland Herdwick lamb and local game.
Over the years, our innovative products and approach have earned us national and international acclaim and our greatest achievement came when we were named Britain’s Best Butchers. We are proud to be members of the Q Guild – representing Britain`s finest independent butchers.
